Geneva Airport to Verbier: time, price, Le Châble or Médran, and what to know before booking

By the Swiss Taxi team · Published 5 September 2026

Verbier is the most international resort in the Valais and one of the most requested from Geneva: a loyal British and Scandinavian clientele, chalets scattered across a plateau at 1,500 m and a final hairpin climb that puts shuttles off. Here is the journey as we drive it every winter week.

Geneva Airport to Verbier: time, price, Le Châble or Médran, and what to know before booking

The route: the lake, the Rhône, the Bagnes valley

No border to cross. The car takes the A1 along Lake Geneva, then the A9 after Lausanne: Vevey, Montreux, Chillon castle, and the entrance to the Valais at Saint‑Maurice. At Martigny we leave the motorway for the Bagnes valley road: Sembrancher, Le Châble, then the 8 km of hairpins up to Verbier. Count 160 km and 1 h 55 in normal conditions. The road is excellent as far as Le Châble; the final climb is cleared continuously but needs winter tyres, which our vehicles carry from October to April.

Le Châble or Verbier?

The question we are asked most. Le Châble, at the bottom of the valley, is the train terminus and the departure of the gondola that reaches Verbier in 10 minutes. If your accommodation is next to the Médran station or you arrive with little luggage, a drop‑off at Le Châble and the gondola are a reasonable option, and the price is slightly lower. In all other cases the chauffeur drives up to the chalet: in Verbier, accommodation is spread between the centre, Médran, Le Rouge, Savoleyres and Les Esserts, and walking with skis from the gondola can be long and slippery.

Prices and vehicles

Geneva Airport → Verbier costs from CHF 570 in a Mercedes E‑Class (1 to 3 passengers), CHF 650 in a V‑Class (up to 7 passengers, ski rack), CHF 800 in an S‑Class. The return is at the same price, with no night or weekend surcharge. For four with skis, the V‑Class works out at CHF 163 per person; for seven, under CHF 100. Shared shuttles cost CHF 80 to 110 per person, with fixed timetables and a drop‑off in the centre.

The days when everyone goes up

On Christmas and February Saturdays, the A9 exit at Martigny and the climb from Le Châble get busy late morning and late afternoon. The journey then stretches from 1 h 55 to 2 h 30. Two events push demand up: the Xtreme Verbier, the Freeride World Tour final in late March or early April, and the Verbier Festival of classical music, two weeks in late July. Book one to two weeks ahead of those dates.

Where the chauffeur drops you

At the exact address, including the sloping streets of the centre and the upper slopes. For chalets with private access, tell us whether the track is cleared; otherwise the chauffeur helps with luggage to the last accessible point. Central hotels have drop‑off bays; the W Verbier and the Médran residences are directly accessible.

The train, honestly

From Geneva Airport a direct train reaches Martigny in 1 h 45, then the regional train climbs to Le Châble in 25 minutes and the gondola does the rest: 2 h 45 to 3 h 15 door to door with two changes. For a solo traveller it is a good option and we say so. For three or more with equipment, the car is faster and often cheaper overall.

Verbier in summer

The resort lives in summer too: the Verbier Festival, mountain biking in the Bike Park, hikes towards the Mont‑Fort and the 4 Vallées. The journey is faster (1 h 45), prices do not change, and the drop‑off can be right at the Médran gondola for a day on the Mont‑Fort.

Our advice

What the chauffeur does at Terminal 1

He tracks your flight from take‑off and is in the arrivals area ten minutes before landing, with a name board, Swiss side by default. If you land on the French side (easyJet flights from some French cities), say so when booking: the chauffeur waits at the French exit. He takes the trolleys, loads skis on the V‑Class rack or in the E‑Class boot, offers water and sets the heating before you even get in. Sixty minutes of waiting are included after landing, which easily covers oversized baggage reclaim.

Verbier and its neighbours: Nendaz, La Tzoumaz, Bruson, Le Châble

The 4 Vallées area is skied from several villages. Nendaz and La Tzoumaz, on the other side, are reached from Geneva via Sion and not Martigny: the price and route are different, so do not book “Verbier” if you are staying in Nendaz. Bruson, facing Verbier across the Bagnes valley, is 10 minutes from Le Châble on a small road. Le Châble itself has more affordable hotels and apartments, with the gondola a stone's throw away; drop‑off there is slightly cheaper. The hamlets of Villette and Cotterg lie in between. Always specify the village: the chauffeur adapts the route, and the displayed price matches the right drop‑off point.

Booking the return and handling changes

We advise booking the outbound and the return together, to have the same chauffeur if possible and a locked price. The return can be changed free of charge up to 24 h before: a changed flight, an extended evening, an earlier departure because of the weather. The chauffeur proposes a departure time the day before, suited to the next day's traffic and your flight, and confirms by SMS. If your return flight is cancelled, we move the transfer to the next flight free of charge.

What our clients ask for most often on the way

A stop in Martigny for groceries before going up, because Verbier's shops are expensive and close early; we do it gladly, ten minutes are included. A detour via the Gianadda Foundation for an exhibition on the way back, on hourly hire. Collecting a lift pass at the Le Châble tourist office before the climb, to avoid the Médran queue on Saturday morning. And the Wi‑Fi question: it works for the whole journey, including the Bagnes valley, except for a few seconds in the A9 tunnels.

Verbier in spring and for events

The season ends in late April with the Xtreme, where the world's best freeriders descend the Bec des Rosses face; the resort is full, and so are the roads on the Sunday of the final. In July the Verbier Festival fills the hotels with music lovers who often arrive from Geneva on a morning flight and leave after the evening concert: we run these same‑day returns, including late at night after the last concert, with no surcharge.

Checklist before booking

On the day, the chauffeur texts you on landing, waits in arrivals and drops you at the door. The return is booked at the same time or later, at the same price, and can be changed free of charge until the day before.
