Geneva Airport to Chamonix: journey time, price, route and pitfalls
Chamonix is our most frequent run from Geneva. Here it is as our chauffeurs drive it every week.

1 h 15 normally, 2 h on February Saturdays
The journey is 88 km: out through the Bardonnex border, A40 to Le Fayet, then the valley road. Allow 1 h 15 outside peak times. On French school‑holiday Saturdays the Autoroute Blanche fills up between Cluses and Sallanches: we plan 1 h 45 to 2 h and adjust the departure time for a return to the airport.
The border
The French‑Swiss border is usually crossed without a stop. Keep an ID document within reach. Non‑Schengen nationals must have their passport on them, not in the suitcase.
The price
A Geneva Airport → Chamonix transfer costs from CHF 400 for the whole car (Mercedes E‑Class, 1 to 3 passengers), CHF 460 in a V‑Class for up to 7 people with skis. Tolls, fuel, waiting and VAT included, return at the same price. Argentière and Le Tour, higher up the valley, take 15 to 20 minutes more; Les Houches, at the valley entrance, has its own page.
Where the chauffeur drops you
At the exact address: a central hotel, a chalet in Les Praz or Les Bossons, the foot of the Aiguille du Midi cable car. For chalets on the slopes, tell us whether the access is cleared; we carry chains and winter tyres.
The alternatives
The Léman Express then the Mont‑Blanc Express via Saint‑Gervais takes 2 h 45 to 3 h with two changes; pleasant, but long with skis. Shared shuttles take 2 h to 2 h 30 with stops. For a late flight, private is often the only option.
Our advice
- Give us your flight number: we track it and the chauffeur adapts.
- For the return, plan to leave 3 h 15 before a European flight on Saturdays, 2 h 45 on weekdays.
- UTMB in late August and the Kandahar in February: heavy traffic, we leave earlier at no extra cost.
