Geneva Airport to Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens: the complete 3 Vallées guide
The 3 Vallées are the largest linked ski area in the world, and Geneva is their natural airport: more flights, more airlines and a motorway that runs almost to the foot of the slopes. This guide gathers what our chauffeurs know about the journey, resort by resort, with real road times and exact prices.

The route: Geneva, Annecy, Albertville, Moûtiers
From Terminal 1 the car leaves Switzerland at the Bardonnex border and takes the A41 towards Annecy. The lake appears below on the left, then the A430 heads for Albertville and the Combe de Savoie. At Moûtiers the Tarentaise valley closes in and three roads climb to their valleys: the D915 to Méribel, the D91A to Courchevel, the D117 to Saint‑Martin‑de‑Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens. The road is wide and well kept as far as Moûtiers; then it is 25 to 40 minutes of hairpins, cleared continuously during the season.
Real journey times
| Resort | Distance | Normal time | February Saturday | E‑Class price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Courchevel 1850 | 143 km | 2 h 20 | 3 h – 3 h 30 | CHF 520 |
| Méribel | 136 km | 2 h 10 | 2 h 50 – 3 h 20 | CHF 500 |
| Les Menuires | 146 km | 2 h 20 | 3 h – 3 h 30 | CHF 530 |
| Val Thorens | 150 km | 2 h 25 | 3 h 15 – 3 h 45 | CHF 540 |
These are Google Distance Matrix times, checked by our chauffeurs. The “February Saturday” column covers the changeover days of the French school holidays, when the Tarentaise absorbs tens of thousands of cars in a day. On Fridays and Sundays you are back to normal times.
What the transfer costs, all included
The price is fixed and per vehicle: Geneva → Courchevel from CHF 520 in a Mercedes E‑Class for 1 to 3 passengers, CHF 600 in a V‑Class for 4 to 7 passengers with skis, CHF 730 in an S‑Class. The return costs the same. French tolls (A41, A430), fuel, the Swiss vignette, 60 minutes of waiting after landing and VAT are included. There is no night, weekend or luggage surcharge. For three, the E‑Class works out at CHF 173 per person; for seven, the V‑Class at CHF 86.
Courchevel: 1850, 1650, 1550, Le Praz
Courchevel is four villages on different levels. Courchevel 1850 is the highest and most exclusive, with its palace hotels, the altiport and the Croisette; that is where the chauffeur drops most of our clients, often straight at the hotel ski room. 1650 (Moriond) is 10 minutes lower and more family‑oriented; 1550 and Le Praz, at the level of the original village, are 15 to 20 minutes before 1850. State the level when booking: the displayed price applies to 1850, the lower levels are slightly cheaper.
Méribel: centre, Mottaret, the hamlets
Méribel is the geographical heart of the 3 Vallées, with protected chalet architecture. Méribel Centre concentrates hotels and shops; Méribel‑Mottaret, 6 km higher at 1,750 m, is closer to the links towards Val Thorens; Les Allues and Méribel‑Village, lower down, are quieter. Here too, specify the hamlet: Les Allues to Mottaret is 20 minutes of road.
Val Thorens and Les Menuires: the Belleville valley
Val Thorens is Europe's highest resort at 2,300 m and a pedestrian one: the chauffeur drops you at the covered car parks or your residence's drop‑off point, then the residence takes over with its snowcats or trolleys. Les Menuires, 10 minutes lower, is reached by the same road; Saint‑Martin‑de‑Belleville, the valley's authentic village, a little before that.
The return to Geneva
For a flight from Geneva, count the journey time, 15 minutes of margin and 2 h of check‑in for a European flight. On a holiday Saturday that means leaving Val Thorens 5 h 30 before take‑off. Our chauffeurs follow traffic live and suggest a departure time when you book; in doubt they prefer to leave earlier, and you will wait at the airport rather than at the entrance to Moûtiers.
The honest alternatives
The train is a real option for a solo traveller: Léman Express to Annemasse, TER to Chambéry then Moûtiers, then bus to the resort, 3 h 30 to 4 h 30 with two or three changes and skis to carry. The direct Paris – Moûtiers TGV is no use from Geneva. Shared shuttles cost CHF 90 to 130 per person depending on the resort, with fixed timetables and stops. From three people, or with a flight landing after 8 pm, the private car is generally the cheapest solution once the suitcases are counted.
Our chauffeurs' advice
- Book early for Christmas and February Saturdays: vehicles go three weeks ahead.
- Give the exact name of the residence and its level (1850, Mottaret…), not just “Courchevel”.
- Renting skis on the spot? Say so: the E‑Class is then often enough for four without equipment.
- Flight arriving late? The chauffeur leaves when you land, at midnight as at noon, at the same price.
Arriving via Lyon or Chambéry instead of Geneva?
Lyon Saint‑Exupéry and Chambéry are closer to Moûtiers as the crow flies, and some charter flights land there on Saturdays. In practice Geneva remains the best choice for most travellers: more frequencies from London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen or Dubai, early‑morning and late‑evening flights, and a continuous motorway as far as Albertville. From Lyon, count 2 h 15 to Courchevel on the A43, barely less than from Geneva, with fewer flights to choose from. From Chambéry, 1 h 30, but the airport only operates on winter Saturdays and closes quickly in fog. If you can choose your ticket, Geneva offers the best combination of frequency, price and reliability.
Equipment: skis, snowboards, golf bags in summer
The E‑Class takes three suitcases and one pair of skis in a bag; beyond that, the V‑Class with its ski rack is made for it: seven suitcases, seven pairs of skis or snowboards, and helmets in the cabin. Nothing is charged for equipment, but tell us what you are bringing so the right vehicle comes. Many of our clients rent on the spot, which simplifies everything: Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens have rental shops that deliver to the chalet. In summer the 3 Vallées become a mountain‑biking and hiking area; the V‑Class carries four bikes with the wheels removed.
The hotels and chalets we serve most
In Courchevel 1850, the palace hotels of the rue de Bellecôte and the Jardin Alpin have drop‑off bays and valets: the chauffeur hands the luggage to the staff. In Méribel, the chalets of the Belvédère and the Altiport are on private roads cleared by the properties; let us know if access is closed at night. In Val Thorens, the Front de Neige residences and the hotels on the place Caron are pedestrian: drop‑off is at car parks P2 or P3 and the residence's trolley or snowcat takes over. In every case the chauffeur calls reception ten minutes before arrival.
Moving between the valleys during your stay
The 3 Vallées are skied from one valley to the next, but in the evening the lifts close and the roads take over: Courchevel and Méribel are 25 minutes apart by road, Méribel and Val Thorens 45 minutes via Moûtiers. For dinner in Courchevel 1850 from Méribel, or to join friends in Val Thorens, we offer inter‑resort journeys at the fixed price, bookable the same day subject to availability. Local taxis exist but are scarce on Saturday evenings; book ahead if you have a table.
The season and its key dates
Val Thorens opens in late November thanks to its altitude, Courchevel and Méribel in the first week of December, and the full area closes between 20 April and early May, Val Thorens last. The busiest periods are the Christmas holidays, 19 December to 4 January, and the French winter holidays, from the first week of February to the first of March, plus the British half‑term in mid‑February. Book the transfer three weeks ahead for those dates; for the rest of the season a week is enough, and cancellation stays free up to 24 h before.
Checklist before booking
- The exact name of the residence or hotel, and the level of the resort: Courchevel 1850 or 1650, Méribel Centre or Mottaret, Val Thorens Front de Neige or the Caron hamlet.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take from Geneva Airport to Courchevel?
2 h 20 in normal conditions for Courchevel 1850, 3 h to 3 h 30 on French school‑holiday Saturdays. Méribel is 10 minutes closer, Val Thorens 5 minutes further.
What does a private transfer Geneva → Val Thorens cost?
From CHF 540 for the whole car in a Mercedes E‑Class (1 to 3 passengers), CHF 620 in a V‑Class for up to 7 passengers with skis. Tolls, fuel, waiting and VAT included; the return costs the same.
Can the chauffeur drop me in Val Thorens, a pedestrian resort?
Yes, at the covered car parks or your residence's drop‑off point. Some residences send a snowcat for the last metres; give the residence name when booking.
Can you get from Geneva to Courchevel by train?
Yes, with two or three changes (Annemasse, Chambéry, Moûtiers) then a bus: 3 h 30 to 4 h. Sensible for a solo traveller with one bag, painful with skis and children.
What time should I leave Courchevel for a flight from Geneva?
Count 2 h 20 of road, 15 minutes of margin and 2 h of check‑in, that is 4 h 35 before take‑off on weekdays, and up to 5 h 30 on a February Saturday. The chauffeur suggests a time suited to your departure day.
What happens if the Courchevel road is closed for snow?

Can I book Geneva → Courchevel out and a return from Val Thorens?
Yes, each journey is independent and billed at the price of the resort concerned. Many clients ski the 3 Vallées for a week and change valley mid‑stay; we also run transfers between resorts.
Are prices higher during the Christmas holidays?
No. The grid is the same all year, Christmas Saturday included. What changes is availability: book three weeks ahead for 26 December and 2 January.
