By the Swiss Taxi team · Published 5 September 2026

Here is our ranking by real road time, with the fixed price of a private E‑Class transfer and a word on the character of each resort. Times come from Google Distance Matrix and are checked by our chauffeurs; they stretch by 30 to 60 minutes on school‑holiday Saturdays.

How to choose

For a short weekend, stay under 1 h 15: La Clusaz, Samoëns, Chamonix, Megève. For a week with children, Les Gets, Le Grand‑Bornand or Villars. For serious skiing, Verbier, the 3 Vallées or Zermatt are worth the two hours of road. In every case the transfer price is fixed, per vehicle, return at the same rate, and each destination page details the route, the drop‑off zones and the comparison with the train.

The resorts between 3 h and 3 h 30, not to be forgotten

Beyond Zermatt, a few major resorts remain reachable from Geneva: Saas‑Fee at 2 h 40, a car‑free village at the foot of thirteen 4,000 m peaks with summer skiing on the glacier; Val d'Isère and Tignes at 2 h 50, the snowiest area of the Tarentaise; Alpe d'Huez at 2 h 35 via Chambéry and Grenoble; Les Arcs and La Plagne, linked by the Vanoise Express, at 2 h 25 and 2 h 30. For these resorts the train takes four to five hours with buses at the end; the private car, around CHF 560 to 750, makes full sense from three passengers.

The ranking by price per person

For a family of four in a V‑Class, the transfer from Geneva works out at CHF 90 per person for La Clusaz, CHF 100 for Samoëns, CHF 108 for Morzine, CHF 113 for Megève, CHF 115 for Chamonix, CHF 158 for Courchevel, CHF 160 for Val Thorens, CHF 163 for Verbier and CHF 218 for Zermatt. At those prices the shared shuttle is no longer cheaper, and the train only is if nobody has luggage. That is why more than half of our winter clients are families.

Which resort for which profile

What the journey time does not tell you

Two resorts an hour from Geneva are not alike. La Clusaz and Samoëns are reached by wide valley roads, without a pass, drivable in all weather; Avoriaz and Flaine end with twenty kilometres of hairpins, superb in fine weather, demanding in snow. The Swiss resorts, Villars, Verbier, Crans‑Montana, avoid the border and its rare checks, which matters for non‑Schengen travellers. Finally, the altitude of the drop‑off affects snow in the village: Val Thorens and Avoriaz guarantee skiing from the building's door; Morzine, Samoëns or Megève are villages where you go up by gondola.

Two airports for one resort

Some resorts are equally well served from Zurich: Zermatt, Verbier or Crans‑Montana are 2 h 40, 3 h 05 and 2 h 50 from Zurich, and Gstaad 2 h 30. If your flights are better to Zurich, or if you combine a stay in German‑speaking Switzerland with a ski week in the Valais, compare the two: each destination page shows the price from all three airports. For the French resorts, Geneva remains unrivalled.

How to use this ranking

First choose the type of stay, weekend, family week, serious skiing, then the resort in the time bracket that suits you. Open its page on this site: you will find the minute‑by‑minute route, the drop‑off zones with any supplement, the hotels we serve most, the comparison with the train and the shuttle, and the price of the four vehicles. The online quote then gives you the price per person for your group. If your resort is not in the list, it is probably among the 136 places of the instant quote; if not, a call is enough, we calculate with the same grid.
